VIA Labs to reveal USB 3.0 HDD controller in March

The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has certified a new USB 3.0 controller for external hard drives from VIA Labs. The chip is currently sampling and is expected to hit mass production in March 2011.
VIA Labs, a subsidiary of VIA Technologies specializing in USB 3.0 integrated chip controllers, is sampling new USB 3.0 controllers for external hard drives with volume shipments slated for March 2011, according to the company. The new solution has been certified by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF).

Dubbed VL701, VIA's new USB 3.0 HDD device controller is offered in either a 64-pin LQFP or 48-pin QFN package to satisfy various customer needs.
