Dell's Frank Azor revealed the company is looking at the 3:2 aspect ratio for future XPS laptops. At the moment, most of Dell's laptops use the 16:9 aspect ratio but the VP General Manager of Alienware, Gaming and XPS, said the company is investigating other aspect ratios. The 3:2 aspect ratio was specifically mentioned, but other aspect ratios are possible as well.

Each aspect ratio has its pros and cons. The widely used 16:9 for example is ideal for media consumption and gaming, but lacks vertical space for productivity.
The Verge's Vlad Savov echoes similar feelings feelings in his article and says, "lateral space is simply not as valuable as vertical space in desktop apps or on the web" as most of the user interface elements across Windows, macOS, and Linux are more vertically stacked than horizontal. He notes that, therefore, a 3:2 screen with the extra vertical space will offer enhanced enhanced productivity and still can be used for media consumption.
