Oregon Live received confirmation from Intel that the company laid off a substantial number of workers. People with direct knowledge of Intel's plan say the chip giant cut hundreds of IT jobs across the company.
“Changes in our workforce are driven by the needs and priorities of our business, which we continually evaluate. We are committed to treating all impacted employees with professionalism and respect,” Intel said in a brief statement acknowledging the cuts to The Oregonian/OregonLive.
The move is seen not as a cost-cutting measure but as a broad change in the way the chip giant approaches its internal technical systems. Intel previously used various IT contractors, and now the work will be consolidated under a single contractor, the India-based Infosys.

The paper explains that with fewer contractors, Intel needs a lower number of managers to oversee those people
