Perpendicular is here to save the day – it takes those same dominoes and places them vertically next to each other which gives a huge two-fold advantage to hard drive makers and, ultimately, consumers. We’ve been told by Seagate that this technology will allow up to a 5-fold increase in platter capacities over the old-way. What that means, is that it’s completely feasible that we’ll see 2.5 Terabyte drives in the not-too-distant future.
